And not just any little ole contest, either. I was one of 24 entrants who guessed the correct number of socks that Wendy over at Wendy Knits would knit during the Summer of Socks! I had figured her speedy hands could knit 5 pairs a week during the time she had. That would have meant 20 pairs. I decided to cut back a pair, and guess 19, because I thought that something would happen to delay her a little at some point. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) Wendy got sick and that DID slow her down one weekend. Hence, she only finished 19 pairs...my guess! I'm just thrilled. I think she has one of the best knit blogs around. So much knitting content, such a friendly, conversational blog, and I love how she answers questions or refers to comments all the time. I don't comment very often because I rarely feel I have something new to say, but I read her blog faithfully. Thanks Wendy! I can't wait to get my pattern and sock yarn in the mail! That's my prize....a pattern that has yet to be published and some yarn! What beats free yarn?
With excellent timing, I have a finished object to show off. None other than, Wendy's Kitty Pi bed! I made this in less than a week. (And it was a very busy week!) It is my first completed Christmas present...and wouldn't you know, it's for my parents' two cats, Dusty and Jasmine! Oh...mom? If you are reading, just pretend you didn't see this, okay?
Pattern: Kitty Pi by Wendy
Yarn: Lion Brand Bolero - 3 balls in Hazelnut colorway, and scraps of Brown Sheep Nature Spun in Blue Knight and Green
Needles: Balene II Size 13 29" circs
Cast On: September 15, 2007
Finished and felted: September 21, 2007
Details: I obviously didn't add the fun fur trim around the top. The Lion Brand Bolero was bought on a whim at Hancocks during their going out of business sale. (that was sad) It is a super bulky thick and thin yarn with sections of barely spun loftiness and tightly spun strands. The colors included yellow, blue, and green...where they got the name "Hazelnut" for this colorway, I'll never know. It felted beautifully though and with the solid Nature Spun to make up the sides (since I ran out of the Bolero and Hancocks was now closed), I think it looks great!
I have a sock on the needles too. I'm making the replacement pair for my mom since the Monkeys didn't work out due to badly behaving yarn. I'm past the heel turn on the first sock. I don't have a pic of it, but here's the gorgeous yarn! Mountain Bearfoot in Steelhead.
Whenever I get in the yarn and pattern from Wendy, I'll post a picture!
