October 18th is my birthday and this year will top the list as the most memorable! We went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse...good, but very loud. Oh, and peanut shells everywhere - I don't get that. After dinner, my parents and brother and sister-in-law came over for cake and ice cream (and to give me presents, of course!). It was a knitting haul, to say the least. First, I had a knitting cake. If you click for bigger, that thing at the top is a knitting basket with little toothpick needles and some scissors and yarn! It was very cute.
My husband gave me three knitting books - Lace Style, More Sensational Knitted Socks, and Favorite Socks. He also gave me two Wendy Knits sock patterns: L-Bee socks and Making Tracks Socks. I love them!
Two knitting magazines - one old, one new. Knitter's Fall 2007 and Fleisher's from 1935! The Fleisher's is all children's knits and it includes some adorable patterns. The magazine was my grandmother's. My parents found it among her things after she passed away a few years ago. It's very neat.

My parents gave me the Knit Picks Options Nickel Plated set! I love them already! I'm so glad these are finally mine. I've read so many glowing reviews and have coveted them at my knitting nights. Now I'll need to order a variety of cord sizes. My stepdaughter gave me the Knit Picks dpn set - which for a sock knitter, is a must have. My one pair of size one KP dpns was not going to cut it. She also gave me the Pumpkin Pie Bubble Bath/Shampoo/Body Wash along with a matching lotion. A PUMPKIN PIE BUBBLE BATH! Can life get any better? Fortunately, yes it can. My husband found my favorite Victoria's Secret perfume - Vanilla Lace. Since I like it, it's obviously been discontinued! Yay for ebay. The yarn is KP Essential in the peacock multi colorway. It was so bright and cheery!
A few more non-knitting related items include this fabulous companion book to Ken Burns' documentary, The War, about World War II. I watched every minute of it and was moved beyond words. If you didn't see it the first time around, I highly recommend it.
And a very yummy smelling Home Interiors candle - the scent is Caramel Pear. Yum! The lotion and shower gel are peach scented.
Oh yeah...the most memorable part? The part that made me cry? My husband gave me this after I'd opened all my other presents!
I'm getting a new car! I was so excited! Mike says he's been planning it for months. Isn't that sweet? The car I'm driving works relatively well - it's just very old with a lot of mileage and is starting to have little fits. (battery going dead, overheating) So, I get to pick out a new one! I've only driven four cars in my life and the last two were hand-me-downs. One was my mother-in-law's car and the one I have now was my mom's. I was very grateful for both of them, but I didn't pick them out. There's just something about being able to do that! Mike, I love you so very much and am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband! Thank you for such a great birthday!
