I joined the Summer of Socks 2008 knitalong which kicked off a week ago. I cast on at midnight with a lot of other participants and got about 5 inches into my first sock! I was using DK weight, so it wasn't that big a deal. However, I finally admitted to myself, after knitting the heel flap, that the sock in question was....ugly. Poor color combinations doomed it. I won't share any pictures for awhile as they are a present, but I did order some more yarn in a better color to fix my error. (Darn...I just HATE ordering new yarn!) So...I was back to square one on my first pair for SOS08 (as the knitalong has come to be known). I finally decided to knit Slippery from the Winter 07 Knitty. When that issue first came out, this pattern was my favorite. I was even more impressed when I read the bio of the designer. She's a high school student! What a fabulous young talent.
I am now into the third of three repeats of the chart for the leg and I just love how the slip stitches carry the colors. It looks wonderful! See?
I recently stopped by Michael's to pick up some polyfil and I stumbled on the knitting bags. I have plenty of larger bags for big projects but not one small bag for socks. I would usually just pop them in a plastic bag from the yarn shop, but my DPNs would poke through. It was a pain, so I picked out a small bag that matches a larger tote I already have. It's perfect! Plus, I love that it is see-through. Tiger loves it too...or maybe he's just looking out the window.
