School is out and it is time for a break. I love teaching, but by the time May comes around the kids and the teachers are ready for time off. It gives us all a chance to relax and rejuvenate. Come the middle of July, I’ll be itching to get back to school! But for now, I’m going to get a lot of knitting done. I’ve started a new sock design! This is for the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry – one of the challenges for this month is to design your own. I’m calling this one Rose Colored Glasses. That’s me when I decide whether I should cast on another project - “Oh sure! I don’t have much else going on! I can get these done in a few weeks! No problem! I don’t have that many unfinished projects!”
The yarn is Ella Rae Lace Merino. I’ve been coveting this skein at my LYS for awhile. I finally bought it a few weeks ago and I just love it! Grays and pinks (rosy, isn’t it?).
The pattern is a 20 row repeat (but really, that’s only because the three main motifs only match up every 20 rows). The middle lace panel in the top pic is just a four row repeat and uses an interesting increase - [k,yo,k] in the same stitch. On either side of the middle panel, are two sections with traveling stitches – slipped stitches that are crossed every few rows – this takes 10 rows to repeat. Then, on either side of those two sections, are another two sections of easy eyelet stitch. You work the pattern twice per round – each repeat is 33 stitches. It’s an interesting pattern, but isn’t difficult to execute. I think it’ll look great in both handpainted and solid yarns. After I finish my first sock, I’ll get the pattern written up and off to some test knitters!
Tiger needs a summer break too….his life has just been so busy!
“Yeah. I only slept 18 hours a day last week! Now, I can sleep my full 20 hours. I’ll feel so much more rested.”
