I am a member of several swap groups on Ravelry and usually pass up fiber batts, braids, roving, etc. I’m not a spinner, but someone recently posted this “Learn to Spin” kit and I claimed it on a whim!
It’s a spindle and two rovings. (Is it proper to be plural like that? It looks funny.) The top is Cooriedale and the bottom is an unknown fiber. I first tried out the bottom yarn (it looks a bit purple in the pic, but it’s more of a brownish/gray). I spent about 10 minutes watching a video on YouTube and jumped right in!
After trying the brown/gray two different times, I spun up the Corriedale. I think it turned out the best but I can still tell it is overspun. I love it though! I plan on using it in some project. The brim of a hat? Cuffs on a pair of mittens? It’s only about 30 yards, so it won’t go far!
From left to right: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd attempts at spinning! Ignore the ties…I used what was handy, which was Encore worsted in blue and orange!
I still have lots of the brown/gray fiber but the dyed fiber is all gone! Too bad because I really enjoyed spinning it and I love the result!
Tiger says, “I like sleeping in the hallway! So what? I’ve never been afraid of hallways before. I just preferred other parts of the house and I’ve now changed my mind. I’m a cat. We do that.”
Wow, great job for your first yarn! Have you given it a bath yet? It looses some of the twist every time you handle your yarn, from plying, to winding, and bathing, even when kitting. I don't think your Corriedale singles have too much twist.

Well done! I love the way the multi-colored one turned out. Making yarn is fun. I should make more time for that!

Thank you for your comments! I have washed the yarn and then I hung it on a coat hanger with another coat hanger weighing it down from the bottom. (I read this or saw it in the video.) I think that really helped. I don't have much, but I'm determined to use it in something...even if just the brim of a hat.
I have some more roving on the way too! I can't wait to get it.
