We draw names at work for birthday and Christmas gift exchanges every year and this year, the wonderful woman whose name I drew for the birthday exchange, LOVES yellow! She wears it every single day so I knew immediately that I had to knit her something wonderful in yellow. She is also one of those people who always, always, comments on my knitted items. She wants to touch them and look at the pattern and marvel over my knitting talent. So I knew that she’d thoroughly appreciate a knitted item.
I searched for a shawl in worsted yarn (I waited too long to start a project in thinner yarn) that wasn’t too lacy or fussy. When I came across the Ka’ana Shawlette by Jennifer Weissman, I knew it was perfect! Plus, it’s free…so that was nice!
Tiger has been enamored with this shawl since I started it. Taking pictures today was a bit difficult.

Wow….he’s a blur! Plus, my shadow is still there. This is because I’m trying to snap fast and not noticing. Grrr. Move the kitty MUCH farther away.
Much better! I didn’t have to crop him out of this shot and my shadow isn’t obscuring the shawl.
Here’s the lovely edging. I blocked it, but not heavily. I didn’t pin it out and now I can’t decide if I should reblock it and really make the points sharper or leave it as is, with a bit of curl.
Pattern: Ka’ana Shawlette by Jennifer Weissman
Yarn: Encore Worsted – 3 balls plus a few extra yards from a 4th to finish the bind off.
Needles: US 8’s/5mm
Cast On: February 9th
Finished: March 30th
Modifications: I bound off as soon as I finished the lace edging and didn’t add the garter rows – only because I was worried about running out of yarn! Which I did with 51 stitches left to bind off. Fortunately, someone was destashing a partial ball on Ravelry.
About the pattern: It states to slip the first stitch with yarn in back on wrong side rows. This is incorrect. The first stitch should be slipped with yarn in front on both sides. A minor error….it’s a lovely, well-written pattern and was an enjoyable knit!
